The year was 1995. Maria was 16 years old and on a journey out into the world. In Sri Lanka, she saw a group of locals carving beautiful wooden figures, which they sold from stalls. The craftsmanship, aesthetics and not least the working conditions under which the wooden figures were produced piqued her interest. And it turned out to also set the direction for Maria's career and has today become the company Manelleh, which produces and sells handmade products.
