HANDMADE IN BANGLADESH
We hope you enjoy our collection of placemats. The diameter of this round jute placemat is 35 cm. We use it to decorate the table for any occasion and hope you will do the same. Combine it, for example, with one of our many beautiful tablecloths.
The placemat is made from jute, a natural fibre with a golden, silky sheen. It is handmade using a traditional weaving technique and hand-stitched with jute thread. The placemat is produced under fair working conditions following global fair trade principles and takes about one hour to make.
When you buy a placemat, you help secure decent, meaningful, and dignified jobs for marginalised women in Bangladesh. The women receive a fair wage and help preserve and develop an old craft tradition.

Details
The placemat is made from jute, which is a natural fibre. It is also called the "golden fiber" because of its shiny golden colour.
The fibre is extracted from the bark of the jute plant and goes through an extensive processing procedure before becoming a finished jute product. Jute is an environmentally friendly material because the jute plant requires very little water.
Because the products are handmade, no two items will ever be exactly the same. We hope you will appreciate the small unique details and the story of the products as much as we do — and that you will enjoy them for many years to come.
Care
- Shake out or vacuum your placemat
- If you spill water on the placemat, blot it with a dry cloth
- Be aware that jute changes colour when exposed to direct sunlight
- The scent of jute (similar to the smell of oil) dissipates after a few days
