HANDMADE IN BANGLADESH
We hope the colors and patterns of this beautiful one-of-a-kind rug will bring plenty of joy and coziness to its new home. The rug measures 100 x 200 cm. It has a different, almost artistic pattern on each side, so you can change the look simply by flipping it. Use it as a warm blanket, as a decorative throw on the sofa, or as a lovely bed runner.
The rug is made from four layers of vintage cotton saris. It is hand-stitched with uniform visible stitches called kantha stitches. Kantha is a unique embroidery technique and a centuries-old tradition originally from Bangladesh and India. The rug was sewn following global fair trade principles and took about 10 hours to hand-stitch.
When you buy a kantha rug, you help secure decent, meaningful, and dignified jobs for marginalized women in Bangladesh. The women work for a socially responsible company where they receive fair wages, an annual bonus (dividend), and vocational training.

Details
This rug is made from vintage cotton saris, which means the product has a history.
The saris were once worn by women in Bangladesh. They have now been upcycled and given a new life. This means the rugs are not perfect and may have small stains and patches.
Likewise, no two products will ever be exactly the same because the products are handmade. We hope you will appreciate the small unique details and their story as much as we do — and that you will enjoy it for many years to come.
Care
We recommend washing the rug as little as possible to protect both the rug and our planet:
- Machine wash at max. 300C
- Preferably use a gentle cycle
- Can be ironed at medium temperature
- Do not bleach, tumble dry, or dry-clean
