HANDMADE IN BANGLADESH

We hope you love our Limited Edition collection of unique kimonos in a variety of colors and beautiful patterns. Each kimono has a different pattern inside and out, meaning that it is reversible and can be worn on both sides.

The kimono is sewn from two layers of vintage cotton saris. It is hand-stitched with even visible stitches known as kantha stitches. Kantha is a special embroidery technique and a century-old tradition originally from Bangladesh and India. The kimono is made following global fair trade principles and has taken more than 15 hours to wash, cut and sew by hand and machine.

When you buy a kimono, you help ensure decent, meaningful and dignified jobs for marginalized women in Bangladesh. The women work for a socially responsible company where they receive a fair wage, an annual bonus (dividend) and vocational training.

NOTE! We recommend that you air or wash your kimono before use. The fabric has only been lightly washed in Bangladesh. The kimono has also been folded and experienced a long transit time, so it may need airing or a wash before you enjoy wearing it 😊

The kimono is made from vintage saris, which means the product has a story.

The saris were previously worn by women in Bangladesh. They have now been upcycled and given a new life. This means the products are not perfect and may have minor stains and patches.

There will likewise never be two products that are exactly the same, because the items are handmade. We hope you will appreciate the little quirks and the story of the products as much as we do — and that they bring you joy for many years to come.

Care

We recommend washing the kimono as little as possible to protect the product and our planet:

• Use a gentle wash cycle
• Can be ironed at medium temperature
• Do not bleach, tumble dry, or dry clean
