HANDMADE IN BANGLADESH
We hope you like our collection of placemats. The measurements of this round jute placemat are D35 cm. We use it to decorate the table for any occasion and hope you will do the same. Combine it, if you like, with one of our many beautiful table linens.
The placemat is made of jute, a natural fiber with a golden, silky sheen. It is handmade using a traditional weaving technique and hand-stitched with jute thread. The placemat is produced under decent working conditions following global fair trade principles and took about one hour to make.
When you buy a placemat, you help secure decent, meaningful, and dignified jobs for marginalized women in Bangladesh. The women receive a fair wage and also help preserve and develop an old craft tradition.

Details
The placemat is made from jute, which is a natural fiber. It is also known as "the golden fiber" because of its shiny golden color.
The fiber is extracted from the bark of the jute plant and undergoes an extensive processing procedure before it becomes a finished jute product. Jute is an eco-friendly material because the jute plant requires very little water.
Because the products are handmade, no two items will ever be exactly the same. We hope you will appreciate the small unique features and the story of the products as much as we do — and we hope you will enjoy them for many years to come.
Care
- Shake or vacuum your placemat
- If you spill water on the placemat, remove it with a dry cloth
- Be aware that jute changes color when exposed to direct sunlight
- The smell of jute (similar to the smell of oil) disappears after a couple of days
