HANDMADE IN BANGLADESH
We hope the colours and patterns of this one-of-a-kind kantha cushion will bring plenty of joy and coziness to its new home. The cushion measures 50 x 50 cm and includes a lovely insert filled with new duck down.
The cushion is made from four layers of vintage cotton sarees. It is hand-stitched with even visible stitches, called kantha stitches. Kantha is a special form of embroidery and a centuries-old tradition originally from Bangladesh and India. The cushion is made in accordance with global fair trade principles and took about three and a half hours to sew by hand.
When you buy a cushion, you help secure decent, meaningful, and dignified jobs for marginalized women in Bangladesh. The women work for a socially responsible company where they receive a fair wage, an annual bonus (dividend) and vocational training.

This cushion is made from vintage cotton sarees, which means the product has a history.
The sarees were previously worn by women in Bangladesh. They have now been upcycled and given a new life. This means the cushions are not perfect and may have small stains and patches.
Similarly, there will never be two products that are exactly the same because the products are handmade. We hope you will appreciate the little quirks and the story of each piece as much as we do — and that you will enjoy it for many years to come.
Care
We recommend washing the cushion as little as possible to protect the product and our planet:
- Machine wash at max. 30°C
- Preferably use a gentle wash cycle
- Can be ironed at medium temperature
- Do not bleach, tumble dry or dry clean
