HANDMADE IN BANGLADESH
We hope the colours and patterns of this unique kantha cushion will bring lots of joy and cosy comfort to its new home. The cushion measures 50 x 50 cm and includes a lovely insert pillow filled with new duck down.
The cushion is made from four layers of vintage cotton saris. It is hand-stitched with uniform visible stitches called kantha stitches. Kantha is a distinctive style of stitching and is a centuries-old tradition originally from Bangladesh and India. The cushion is sewn in line with global fair-trade principles and took about three and a half hours to hand-stitch.
When you buy a cushion, you help ensure decent, meaningful, and dignified jobs for marginalized women in Bangladesh. The women work for a socially responsible company where they receive a fair wage, an annual bonus (dividend), and vocational training.

This cushion is made from vintage cotton saris, which means the product has a history.
The saris were previously worn by women in Bangladesh. They have now been upcycled and given a new life. That means the cushions are not perfect and may have small stains and patches.
Likewise, there will never be two products that are exactly the same because they are handmade. We hope you will appreciate the little quirks and the story behind each piece as much as we do — and that it will bring you joy for many years to come.
Care
We recommend washing the cushion as little as possible to protect the product and our planet:
- Machine wash at max 30°C
- Preferably use a gentle cycle
- Can be ironed at medium temperature
- Do not bleach, tumble dry, or dry clean
